Thanksgiving Tree

I randomly saw these leaves in King Soopers of all places, and our Thanksgiving Tree idea was born.  Each night (or every second or third night we would play catch up) the kids would tell me something that they were thankful for.  Typically the kids were very sweet about it (though we did get some funny ones) and only towards the end of the month when we were doing multiple leaves at once did I have to tell them to think of something from their heart, and not something silly.  Even though my tree was a little ugly (check out the roots) it turned out so cute and the kids and I really enjoyed doing this.  I listed what the kids had me write on their leaves below the picture.  If you read them, you'll notice "great" is basically the only adjective Lizzy knows-it makes me wonder if I use that word all the time!  And although Paul gets points for the funniest one (Taco Bell) he also took this activity to heart and really thought about what he was thankful for.

Lizzy:
I have a great Mom, Dad, Grandma, dogs, Grandpa, Pops, and Mamaw.
That Daddy had a great day.
For our great house.
For Dad's birthday.
I have a healthy body and I'm smart.
Mom made my blanket.
We have this great family.
I'm thankful we went to school today.
That I have toys.
That we went to the Hanson Family Thanksgiving.
I have a funny Mom, Dad, and brother.
That Paul got to go to Dylan's house.
That I have a great brother I play with.
That we had this great day.
That we had great strawberry and pumpkin muffins.
We have great dogs.
For happy smiles.
That I have a great brother.
That we go to church on Sundays.
That we get to see Hannah.
I'm thankful we went to the hockey game.
That we have this Thanksgiving.
We have this great house.
That we got to see Will.
I have friends.

Paul:
I have a mom.
I'm thankful that we vote.
I'm thankful we had some good food.
That we went to church today.
That my sister is funny.
I have a grandma.
That we went to Aiden's baptism and party.
I'm thankful we went to school today.
That we had Thanksgiving dinner.
For Dad's birthday.
I have a grandpa.
That we do math.
I'm thankful for Taco Bell.
That I went to Dylan's house.
For our Earth.
I'm thankful Will came to the hockey game.
That we have this school.
That I have a good family.
For our thankful tree.
That I helped make muffins.
That I have a little sister.
We have Christmas.
That we have batteries.
We have a great family.

  1. I LOVE that Will made it on the thankful tree. He would probably tell you that the hockey game ranked in the top five nights of his life.
